What makes a great music video? That’s a topic that’s hotly debated, but classic music promos are often copied, imitated and parodied shamelessly! With that in mind, Yellow Lizard Media teamed up with local businesses in St Albans earlier this year, offering our video production services to create a hilarious charity music video inspired by Justin Timberlake, all in aid of Home-Start Hertfordshire.
The original video, Can’t Stop the Feeling, features workers from all walks of life dancing to the Prince of Pop in their workplaces, as Justin himself eats in a diner and wheels his trolley around a grocery store. The St Albans Justin Timberlake parody adapted this idea and transferred it across the Atlantic in a light-hearted celebration of the local business community here in Hertfordshire. Our former Mayor, Cllr Salih Gaygusuz, is an impressive Timberlake-a-like who took on the starring role!
St Albans Businesses
Led by Sue Wybrow of the St Albans Businesses group (SAB), the St Albans Justin Timberlake parody project involved over 30 local companies, who offered up their premises as locations as well as taking the time to learn their moves and have a bit of fun for a good cause. Some included:
- Headcase Barbershops
- Grant Thorton
- The Herts Health & Wellbeing Board
- Chloe James Lifestyle
- DJ’s Jungle Adventure
- Atlas Translations
- Melanie Bundock
- Eve and Adam Day Spa
And of course, if you watch carefully you might spot our very own Scott and Dan from Yellow Lizard Media getting their groove on. Finally, a very special mention goes to Sue’s company, Popdance International, who choreographed all the dance routines to make everyone look like a superstar, as well as joining in the fun themselves.
Scott/Dan said, about the making of the video: “It was fantastic to get involved with such a range of local businesses here in St Albans, coming together to raise money for such a great cause. Here at Yellow Lizard Media we really enjoyed the challenge of recreating Justin’s video for Can’t Stop the Feeling, and St Albans provided many great locations. The local business people were lots of fun to work with and we’re really pleased with the end result.”
Fundraising for Home-Start Herts
Premiered in the St Albans Odyssey Cinema and now a YouTube hit and social media sensation, the St Albans Justin Timberlake parody video has now raised over £2,000 for Home-Start Hertfordshire, a local charity working to provide practical and emotional support to families in the area. And it’s not too late to donate – visit the fundraising page here.
